India wants to establish some world class education Institutions under the “Institutes of Eminence Scheme”

Reference:- Now the biggest supporter of the Indian Universities the University Grants Commission(UGC) has adjourned a judgement on which institutions should be granted the decent Institutes of Eminence tag as an expert committee has recommended more names than the government scheme allowed for.

Background:-

Last year in 2018; Ministry of Human Resources and Development was start the Institutes of Eminence Scheme to create the educational ecosystem in across India. The ministry was select some public and private sector educational institutions. A committee was formed under the leadership former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami had recommended 11 Institutions in July 2018. The committee again recommended 19 institutions names they recommended total 30 names till December 2018.

About the Institutions of Eminence scheme:-

1. This scheme leading by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the main target of the scheme to project Indian institutes to global recognition.

2. The selected institutions will be free to enjoy the academic and administrative autonomy. The government of India will give the specific funding to the selected institutions.

3. The selection of the instructions shall be through the prestigious experts committee which formed for the selection purpose.

Eligibility Criteria:-

Only higher education institutions currently placed in the top 500 of global rankings or top 50 of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) are eligible to apply for the eminence tag. The private Institutions of Eminence can also come up as greenfield ventures provided the sponsoring organisation submits a convincing perspective plan for 15 years.
