Reference :- National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Kumar Doval was inaugurated Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC)-2019 at Goa on 4 th October 2019.
Theme of this Conclave:- “Common Maritime Priorities in IOR and need for Regional Maritime Strategy”.
? This conclave was completed with three sessions with the deep focused on competence building of IOR (Indian Ocean Region) Navies to encounter rising maritime threats in addition to discussing cooperative strategies for enhancing interoperability among partner maritime agencies. Renowned national and international speakers articulated their views on these important issues, which were followed by theme based discussions.
About IOR (Indian-Ocean Rim Association):- The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), formerly known as the Indian Ocean Rim Initiative and Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC). It is 22 coastal state’s International organization. It is based on the principles of Open Regionalism for strengthening Economic Cooperation particularly on Trade Facilitation and Investment, Promotion as well as Social Development of the region.
Why is Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is important for India:- More than 70 % oil imports through this region which make itself very priority areas to secure his energy related basic needs.
What is Maritime Threats:- There are some maritime threats which attracts the eyes to “why Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)” is important India and others members.
1. Maritime Threats:- 10 Pakistani terrorists were executed during the Mumbai Serial Blast in 1993 who used the sea routs to enter in India and another one is Mumbai Blast in 2008.
2. Piracy:- Somalia and Gulf of Aden are predominantly attacked by pirates.
3. Human Trafficking and Smuggling in this region.
4. Intrusion and Refugee and one is Illegal Migration.
