Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech of 2018, announced the launch of the Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS). The full-scale roll-out of the project is expected to be in September end. This the world biggest health scheme.Ayushman Bharat Yojana will be launched on 25 September 2018.

Aim of this Scheme:- Creating a network of health and wellness infrastructure across the nation to deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services. To provide insurance cover to at least 40 per cent of India's population which is majorly deprived of secondary and tertiary care services.

How would this scheme work:- National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) will provide financial protection (Swasthya Suraksha) to 10.74 crore poor, deprived rural families and identified occupational categories of urban workers’ families as per the latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data (approx. 50 crore beneficiaries). Beneficiaries will receive Ayushman Bharat Family Health Cards from the Healthcare Providers. State governments and Insurance companies will provide finance to the consumer.

Features:- (1) The scheme will be cashless & paperless at public hospitals and empanelled private hospitals (2) The beneficiaries will not be required to pay any charges for the hospitalization expenses. (3) The scheme is an entitlement based, the beneficiary is decided on the basis of family being figured in SECC database. (4) 5 Lakhs insurance cover per family (5) No cap on size of family or age of family members. (6) Pre-existing diseases covered from Day 1 of enrolment of the scheme.
