The exam of state civil service is conducted by the State Public Service Commission (SPSC) almost every year.
After the IAS examination it is the second most widely and strongest exam which conducted in India. Many aspirants prepare for IAS and PCS together because this exam almost like the Union Civil Service Examination.,
To start the PCS or any competitive exam we need to know about the pattern or the syllabus of examination. So before to start the preparation you should try to under the syllabus that what the syllabus demand from the aspirants. To understand the syllabus the candidates will be benefited in two ways first, only read necessary topics and second you will save your valuable time.
The pattern of State Civil Service Examination approximately same in all the Indian states Such as all the top ranking posts of the states. The exam of PCS consist of three stages such as prelims, mains and the interview just like UPSC.
Stage-1: State Civil Service(Preliminary) Examination (Based on objective type)
Stage-2: State Civil Service(Mains) Examination( Based on descriptive type)
Stage-3: personal interview.
Stage-1: State Civil Service Preliminary Examination:
The preliminary exam consists two components
1. The General Studies are the first paper of the prelims exam which openly depend on the general awareness of the participator in the exam. The paper consists from the wide area of the general awareness like, History, Indian Economy, Science and Technology, Indian Polity, Geography, Environment and Ecology, International Relations and the current affairs portion.
2. The CSAT are the second paper of prelims exam which related to Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision-making and problem-solving, General mental ability and Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).
Stage-2: Civil Service Mains Examination:
After qualify the prelims the candidates invite for the Mains examination, the Mains exam judge the understanding power and deep knowledge of the candidates. The Mains paper bound the aspirants in the time manner because the time are short and the paper are huge and wide.
In this stage the exam pattern will descriptive in form and the candidates will be give the analytical answer in exam copy. The Mains examination consists 7 papers with different sectors of the syllabus.
Note: Every state have a different pattern to conduct the examination. The number of paper can be different in different states. Ex, here we are talking about Uttrakhand exam pattern only.
Paper-1: Language: The first paper of PCS Mains will be language based on the choice of candidates. The language can be different according the choice of candidates.
Paper-2: In this paper the questions will be from the history of India, National movement, Society and the Culture.
Paper-3: The 3rd paper of the examination based on the Indian Polity and governance, Social Justice and the International relation.
Paper-4: In this section of the exam the questions will be asking from the India and the world geography.
Paper-5: Economy and the Development are the fifth paper of the exam
Paper-6: The questions will be asking from the General Science and the Technology.
Paper-7: And the last paper the questions will come from the General Aptitude and the Ethics and Integrity.
Note: The each questions paper will be marks 200 with duration 3 hours, except: In UK the language paper are asking 300 marks. Here we have already told that the pattern of the exam can be different in different states.
Stage-3: Personal Interview:
After qualify the Mains examination the selected candidates will be invite for the personal interview or personality test. The candidates will be faced the board of interview examiners which appointed by the State Public Service Commission(SPSC).
The main goal of the interview to test the personal ability of the candidates as a career of civil servant. The board try to judge the mental and decision taking ability as a civil service officer. And another way they test the analytics ability of the aspirants.
The interview of PCS are different marks in different states. Ex. In Uttrakhand the interview 200 marks. Total marks of UKPCS are 1700 and the last the ranking decide according to the obtained marks.
